How to Check Oil Level in Car

Anyone in Ponte Vedra can learn how to check car oil or how to check the oil level in a car. Be sure to have a cloth, and a level place to park your vehicle. Then, just follow these simple steps, and you’ll be able to do it in no time:

First, prepare your vehicle:

  1. To get an accurate reading, park your car on a level surface.
  2. Then, wait a while after turning off your car. This allows the oil to settle in the pan. It is also safer to work with a cold engine. It’s recommended to wait about 10-15 minutes after turning your engine off.
  3. Then, open the hood.

Check the oil level in your car:

  1. Once you have your hood open, you’ll have to locate the dipstick. It should be easy to find; usually, it will have a bright red or orange cover on it and may have a ring shape.
  2. Once you locate the dipstick, you should be able to pull it right out. It will look like a long, skinny metal rod with oil on the tip.
  3. Now, wipe off the dipstick with a cloth, so you can get an accurate reading.
  4. Put the dipstick back into the engine, and then pull it back out.

By checking the amount of oil on the end of the dipstick, you should be able to know whether it’s time to change your oil. There will likely be a marking on the stick that represents an appropriate amount of oil. If the oil stretches up to this marking, your oil is probably fine. If the oil only coats the tip of the stick, then it’s time for you to change your oil.
