Here’s How to Program a Chevy Key Fob One Step at A Time

If you have the Chevy remote start key fob, Chevy Silverado key fob, Chevy Malibu key fob, or any other model Chevy key fob in hand, you’re ready to start the Chevy key fob programming process. Here’s what you’ll want to do:

  1. Use your Chevy key to unlock your vehicle manually (insert the key into the door).
  2. Make sure all doors, including the trunk, are closed. Next, insert your key into the ignition, but do not start your vehicle.
  3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door of your Chevy interior, then turn your key to the “On” position. Your lights and your radio should come on, but your Chevy’s engine should not be on.
  4. Turn the key back to the “Off” position. Next, quickly turn it to “On” and then back to “Off” once again in quick succession. (On – Off – On – Off)
  5. Release the unlock button.
  6. You should hear the door locks engage and disengage after you stop holding the unlock button, alerting you that the programming sequence can begin!
  7. Press and hold both the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons on your Chevy key fob at the same time until you hear the door locks engage and disengage again. If you do, congratulations — that means you’ve successfully completed the Chevy key fob programming process!
  8. Last but not least, insert your newly-programmed key into the ignition in the “On” position to terminate the programming sequence. You can now use your Chevy key fob normally!
