4th of July Cookout for the Homeless: Beaver Acts of Wow 1
We just wanted to start out by saying thank you to Jaime D, Orvin F, and Mark for working so diligently with us, in order to pull off our first Random Acts of WOW community project! On the Fourth of July, our team at Beaver Chevrolet, loaded up four trucks hauling five grills, coolers full of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, water and more and drove over to the City Rescue Mission Center in downtown Jacksonville! Over a span of four hours, our crew was able to serve over 200 food insecure individuals! We are so thankful for everyone who helped make this happen, especially the men in the kitchen and those working out in the dining room! Unfortunately, homelessness is a major issue all over the United States and with that being said, our family at Beaver Chevrolet are humbled by the experience and opportunity to make a difference in our local community.
According to City Mission Rescue Center statistics:
- One in six people are food insecure and do not know where their next meal will come from in Northeast Florida.
- 65% of the homeless population in Florida are men.
- 20% of those that are homeless in Florida are veterans.
I highly encourage anyone who has the time and the resources, to take a look at what wonderful things the City Rescue Mission Center is doing and see how you too can impact the lives of our less fortunate community members.
