Hybrid Cars vs. Electric Cars: the Basics

Hybrid Cars

Technically, hybrid vehicles are still gas-powered. Unlike a traditional vehicle powered by gas, however, hybrids also have an electric motor, meaning they aren’t completely dependent on gasoline. The gas engine and the electric motor work in unison to provide power to your car as you drive through Ponte Vedra, giving you a major bump in gas mileage. The battery for the electric motor in hybrid vehicles self-charges, meaning you don’t have to plug into a power source.

Electric Cars

An electric vehicle, or EV, runs solely on electricity. There isn’t an engine in the traditional sense, just a battery and an electric motor. The battery in an EV is far larger than the one you’d find in a hybrid because it provides a much more prominent role in providing power for the vehicles to run. Electric vehicles can be plugged into a home or public charging station to provide charge to the battery. Depending on how much charge you’ve got on the battery, the mileage range you’ll have to work with will vary. Most electric vehicles provide electric range in the mid to high 200 miles, meaning if you’re a light or moderate driver, you can drive mostly as normal with only minor changes to your lifestyle.
